[comp.sys.apollo] Mounting scsi drives in a DN2500

bep@quintro.uucp (Bryan Province) (09/10/90)

A while back I posted about having problems with mounting scsi drives in a
DN2500. I wanted to be sure things had stabilized before posting my results.
Get this, the only way I could avoid getting errors from the drive was to mount
it in the 2500 with the node sitting on end (i.e. the drive is on its side). I
tried putting the drive upside down and even "rightside up" but still got "scsi
target not available" errors. I can accept it not working upside down because
the heads would be sitting wierd but "rightside up"? The drive is a Maxtor
LXT-200 200Mb drive. Does anyone know if these drives need to be lined up
cosmically in order to work right? (When the heads are in the seventh track and
Jupiter's aligned with Mars...) I have the technical manual and it states "The
disk drive may be mounted in any orientation.". Wierd, huh?
