[comp.sys.apollo] HELP!!!!!!

root@ebe.eb.ele.tue.nl (The one and only bug) (09/19/90)

Please help me,

Usually I never read manuals, but just go and try.
Now I did read the manual, and it blows up in my face.

Here's my problem:
We've got two rings which were separate. One running SR9.7
the other one running SR10.2. First they were not connected,
but since a while they are. So on both rings are there a
substantial number of users, and some have accounts on both.

Now do we want to merge these two and start using a read_only
SR9 registry, which is download from SR10 system.

Here's the question:
How do we get the registries again uniform? If possible
without to much labour. And in such a way that the files
can still be accessed. (No objects being lost due to
  losing it's owners uid)

Here's what we've done sofar:
cvtrgy on the srg registry has put us in a state were the
sr9 registry contains the canned items, and the original
  items were changed to <item>_sr9.
(But rgy does not allow admin_sr9, name to long)
then we were going to use rgy_merge this converted registery
with the already running sr10 registry. But this does not
  seem possible.
The question is then also who and what are the domain/uids
  going to be set.
I've found a way of retreiving some of the uid's from the
sr9 /etc/{passwd,group} files, but this does not include
the groups. Fortunatly is there only a small number of
groups, so I guess that we could live with losing the
groups, but not with losing the files in the groups.

It could be done on a sort of amnual way with
edrgy adopt, but then again is this not going to solve
  the dual uid problem.

Can anybody get us uot of this wreckage we've made?

Thanx
