Anyone know how to mail bitmap files created on Apollo's using Aegis's `cpscr' ? /usr/ucb/mail and uuencode bomb out reporting the file is a directory, yet /usr/bin/file reports the file is a bitmap file. I'm running BSD 4.2 on an Apollo 3500 (SR9.7). -- Ashok "Ash" Gupta Post : Philips Research Labs, Crossoak Lane, Redhill, Surrey, RH1 5HA, U.K. Voice: +44 293 785544 ext 5647 JANET: gupta@prl.philips.co.uk ARPA: gupta%prl.philips.co.uk@nsfnet-relay.ac.uk

Apollo bitmaps are typed files, so they don't like being uuencoded. I would use `tar' with the `A' option first. E.g. % tar Acf - gemacs.bmf |compress|uuencode gemacs.tar.Z>gemacs.tar.Z.uu And to get it back you would pipe this article to `uudecode' and then say % zcat gemacs.tar.Z |tar Axf - Here is gemacs.tar.Z.uu: begin 644 gemacs.tar.Z M'YV0+^BT@1,PC!P78>"\8</FC8LB20!(G$BQHL6+&#-JW,B1(HB/-D*"Z.CQ MHTD0,FC<@#%RX\<:,638`-"2I,V;.'/JW,FSI\^?0(,*'4I4(XPRI[Z``R`G M!0`!(RDL@18`6A![:P*U`Q!@(KF)"B8RL#C6Q+\.7``4,`//[(8A%,UV(`*` M014<$@E0'"!QP`6*#PI`*%#TI]^+%IX67LRXL>/'D"-+GDRYLN7+F#-KWLRY ML^?/H$-;['%HT2I0`7CP`P`(`)**K5M/##SXXE>)826.%<V[M^_?0<^4:1-F MS!P78MJ8`5[4Y(T:-4::G$&#AG23,:^?!&$#AO>/-&S<N&$C!G08,TQVKTZ3 MN?OW\.-7[MH5"`#[72?JY9H?`(+Y7`7XGV)YR6?@@0@FJ.""##;HX(,01MB3 M`*18%(`]%GWAC6P2">"&/QP"D(8<7X`1`#``#'##)O^`(0!^76S3#QP%M#;` M/_Q\`\T"`'S@PQ_N^(./!`"`$4P49ZC"RP0`?!),(O-4P4<$@?P!SAWSJ(** M!O[\`\\#8U1!10,!_--/`,.0@LH!5_P#X@%34%#F/^M`X\`JF`#PPS?^J*.+ M%23T^,HD?\C#"!HWNI//+_540<<#7D10R!+Z,(+,`:\(H(<G3[!!3@#[H-)- M#0%8"H`[0M@#PC_94`)``Q"`,<4_N"#BGQZ"//'/#+``H`$N3*@AQAS(`#!! You can used either "wbak -to filename" or "/bin/tar -cvAf filename" to backup an Apollo specific file (like bitmaps), file header, file type, and all into a generic Unix "unstruct" file prior to using "uuencode". -- David Krowitz krowitz@richter.mit.edu (18.83.0.109) krowitz%richter.mit.edu@eddie.mit.edu krowitz%richter.mit.edu@mitvma.bitnet (in order of decreasing preference)
