The "level2" processes you are seeing are probably Zombie processes. There are bugs in "pst" at various 10.x levels (sorry, don't remember which ones) which keep Zombie processes from appearing in the output. Supposedly, Zombies are marked as <defunct>, but I am pretty sure I have seen cases where they're not. The "T" status indicates the process is stopped. Thus, one might suspect that the process's parent is not properly waiting for termination status from the child process. Until the parent checks the child's status, some vestige of the child must remain in the system. Of course, I could be totally off base too...
