> I have an Apollo DN3000 with 4MB RAM. I am interested in doubling this.... One thing to check is whether you have 4 1MB cards or 2 2MB cards. Since you can only put in 4 cards, if you have 4 1MB cards, you'll probably end up tossing some memory boards. > Is anyone aware of a third party vendor that sells memory for the Apollo's? Yes. I don't know about DN3000 memory > Are the upgrade cards different between the DN3000 and DN4000? YES!!! You can only put in 1MB or 2MB cards into a DN3000 (except for one screwed up DN3000 type that escapes me at this moment). Note that there is _sometimes_ a difference in DN4000 vs DN35x0/DN4500 memory. The DN4000 does not need to use interleaved memory. I believe that both Clearpoint and DataRAM memory are both interleaved (work in all of the DN35X0/DN4X00 series). > Is it possible to use some PC compatable memory card? Not as far as I'm aware. The memory bus is not the AT-bus. > Also, some time ago, I noticed an inquiry concerning hard disk defragmentation with > DOMAIN/OS. I don't believe the question was answered, so I will pose it again: > Is there software available that de-fragments the disk on the Apollo machines > (or UNIX machines in general)? Or is this not a concern under UNIX? Why? I don't know of any software for this. Apollo claims that it isn't necessary. I have not heard any convincing reason for this. The best you can do right now as far as de-fragging a node is to move the data off (tape or to another disk), and re-format the node.
