[comp.sys.apollo] MX compatible sendmail - we *really* should have one !

ianh@bhpmrl.oz.au (Ian Hoyle) (10/31/90)

Some time ago I posted a query regarding what version of sendmail shipped
with SR10.3 (which we have _no_ idea when it will finally get to these far
flung shores :-(.

Many people lamented that it was v5.52 which is **old** and has no MX
capability. I'm forwarding this very recent posting from comp.sys.sgi which
shows that they are taking a positive view to providing users with the
latest releases of popular (at least I assume sendmail is popular :-)
software. Their support of v5.64 + (and this is the good part) the IDA
enhancements is very encouraging for the use of my SG's. I wish I could say
the same thing for my many Apollo's.

Maybe this is a case for the use of netpower to try and twist HP's arm and
do something similar for us ??

In response to requests from some of our customers, a prototype version
of MX-capable sendmail for Silicon Graphics Iris 4D series computers is
now available for anonymous ftp from SGI.COM [192.48.153.1].

This version of sendmail is based upon Berkeley sendmail version 5.64
and includes the IDA and BIND enhancements.

A compressed tar file containing the sendmail binary, the
sendmail.hf file, a skeleton sendmail.cf, and a self explanatory
README file can be found in the ftp directory under the pathname
sgi/sendmail/MX_sendmail/MX_sendmail.tar.Z

Those wishing to experiment with this code should note that it is to
be considered an unsupported prototype and that the following disclaimers
apply in full:
