Anyone had any experience with rlogin failing with the error msg: bind: Permission denied rcmd: socket: Permission denied It seems to go away if you wait a while (10 - 15 minutes is usually enough). Our setup is: n x Apollo DN35x0, SR10.2, ATR network (mixture of +/- disk) 1 x Apollo DN3500, SR10.2, ATR network + ethernet card as 2nd network (this node acting as a gateway between the ATR and the Enet) 5 x Sony 1750, BSD4.3, Ethernet n/w 1 x UNISYS 6000 workstation, System V.3, Ethernet n/w The rlogin is *known* to: fail when trying to rlogin from an Apollo to the UNISYS, and succeed when trying to rlogin from a Sony to the UNISYS at the same time. We *think* we've seen it fail similarly when trying to rlogin from one Apollo to another - not sure though. Any assistance/tips/thoughts gratefully accepted ... -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Matt Atterbury [matt@bacchus.esa.oz] Expert Solutions Australia, Melbourne UUCP: ...!uunet!munnari!matt@bacchus.esa.oz "klaatu barada nikto" ARPA: matt%bacchus.esa.oz.AU@uunet.UU.NET "life? don't talk to me about life!"

False Alarm?! In the cwd was a locally hacked version of rlogin (taken off the net) which was being used instead of the system rlogin (. in the path). This seems to cause subsequent problems on the socket it *used* s.t. you could rlogin once, but a subsequent rlogin, or any socket based program, would fail with the 'Permission denied' error. Don't know yet if the problem is ours or in the code taken from the net. Sorry for the net.bandwidth and your time. regards ... -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Matt Atterbury [matt@bacchus.esa.oz] Expert Solutions Australia, Melbourne UUCP: ...!uunet!munnari!matt@bacchus.esa.oz "klaatu barada nikto" ARPA: matt%bacchus.esa.oz.AU@uunet.UU.NET "life? don't talk to me about life!"
