[comp.sys.apollo] Mixed Clusters?

ash@hpsad.HP.COM (Jim Holsenback) (11/08/90)

I'm intrested in finding out about HP/Apollo machines, and how they
fit or don't fit into a cluster environment.

Specifically can HP9000/8XX or 9000/3XX systems serve the HP/Apollo
	HP9000/4XX machines?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. When running HP-UX, it is possible
to have a pure 300/400 cluster; one machine acts as the host, and all the
others boot as discless clients. Its also possible to boot 300/400's off
an 800 which has been properly setup.

As for Domain/OS, it is possible to have a DNx5xx/400 cluster; again, one
machine acts as the hosts, all others boot discless. Under Domain/OS,
it is also possible to have local disks on a discless node (discless in the
sense that the OS needs are provided by another machine).

As for HP-UX and Domain/OS cross discless booting, NO.

As for how HP-UX and Domain/OS machines behave in the network, you've got
all the standard TCP/IP, 802.3, ftp, NFS, .... stuff that works just fine.
