[comp.sys.apollo] "mwm "disappearing""

All of this started when I installed PSK5/Motif a few weeks ago:
We are experiencing a problem with mwm where it appears to go dead
and all windows become frozen in place
(no characters are echoed in 'xterm's, the input focus can't be
changed by clicking on a new window/frame, clicking the left mouse
button in the root window does not pop up the root menu),
but a 'ps' from another login shows 'mwm' is still there.
The mouse cursor moves to follow the mouse movements, and changes to an
X in the root window, 'xeyes', 'xclock' and 'xload' continue to work
	normally.
Possibly related is the keyboard suddenly interpreting all characters
as upper case, without the 'Caps Lock' key, and/or the keyboard
repeating pressed keys when they were not held down, and/or the
DM output window saying 'Logged in as foo.bar.none ' after trying to
login on the display (i.e. it never gets to saying "Welcome to
	Domain/OS").
We see this on DN2500, DN4500 and DN10000. If you type 'shut' in the DM
command window (assuming that window can be found and is visible),
the system will shut down after 15-30 minutes.
	Any ideas?

We see simular behavior even with just the dm running if the sum of all process
sizes approaches the amount of disk free space available. Basically, in our case,
the system runs out of swap space, and gets tied up swapping small chunks of
programs in and out, and appears to be hung.

Try a unix 'df' command or in Aegis 'lvolfs' and see what shows up.

If this is the problem, you MAY get lucky and be able to crp on as root and
kill some large processes to free up the node.

Hope this is helpfull;
