[comp.sys.apollo] Remote printing problem

azman@rangkom.MY (Azman Baharom) (12/12/90)

Hi netters,

I have a problem in printing from a remote system (eg. vax or convex)
to an Apollo running SR10.2/BSD4.3. The print server is on an Apollo running SR10.2.

I have already filled in the /etc/hosts.equiv file with the name of the remote station.
When I call lpr from the remote host, I get the following message from the spool node
of Apollo system at /usr/adm/lpd-errs:

Nov 24 11:18:12 t1a lpd[1228]: cannot find device 1222352, 1

and it always has the same device number which doesn't exists.
The messages that come from the remote hosts when I do lpq is that t1a is down
and waiting for t1a to come up. As a result, the jobs queue forever.
The /etc/printcap file is correctly set to the best of my knowledge.

The problem does not exist when the remote printer is attached to the Convex or VAX,
and the printing is requested by the Apollo. Thus, I think this is an Apollo specific
problem.

BTW, lpd runs all the time and the network is perfectly set up. In addition, printing
is ok within the Apollo token ring.

My /usr/spool is linked to the printer server

lrwxrwxrwx  1 root           17 Sep 6  1990 /usr/spool -> //dsp10/usr/spool

Is it something I forgot to do?????????
