Can someone send me a sample printer configuration file for an HP laserjet III (with postscript cartridge) ? Would it be possible to share the HP laserjet III with an IBM PC (parallel port) and an apollo (serial port) ? Anything (software/cable) different between the HP laserjet III and Apple laserwriters, as far as I should set it up ? Thanks. Roque Oliveira oliveria@caen.engin.umich.edu Here is a sample prsvr config file: # who we are and what print manager we use prmgr_site ccpost_prmgr printer_name ccpost description HP Laserjet III device_driver postsc speed 9600 io_device_name /dev/sio1 resolution 300 paper_length 11 paper_width 8.5 point 12 lpi 6 collate_copies on left_margin 0.25 right_margin 0.25 bottom_margin 0.25 top_margin 0.25 #head_string !//modified**& #foot_string /-#-/printed**% # misc control stuff file_banners first form_feeds 0 logo CC LASERJET III (Postscript) Here is the corresponding prmgr file: spool_node //cc1 prmgr_name ccpost_prmgr We used a null modem cable wired as: 1 to 1 2 to 3 5 and 6 to 20 7 to 7 and set (using tctl) cts_enable and sync. You can order electronic switch boxes from most PC magazines for around $90. We have one that allows us to share with an Apollo print server and a Novell print server. I believe these boxes can be ordered to intermix parallel/serial, but the cable going to the printer can only be one or the other, unless the printer locks on the serial/parallel port per print job (like QMS's). Hope this helps...
