I just plugged my Exabyte drive onto a DN4500 to see if I could read a WBAK tape that someone sent me, written on an SR10 machine. RBAK wasn't working, complaining about the first label not being VOL1. I dd'd the stuff into a file, and found that the bytes were swabbed. Unfortunately, wbak throws all kinds of EOF markers and other things into the tape, and you can't just dd conv=swab | rbak -stdin. Is there an option to configure your scsi devices to swap bytes? If not, is there a jumper I can throw into my tape drive to do the swapping for me? The Workstation Solutions system has an option for configuring the device to swap bytes. Too bad they didn't standardize on one format, now that means that all 8mm tapes that come in have a 50-50 chance of being readable from other drives.... Thanks, Scott Ferguson srfergu@erenj.bitnet

Actually, if you had bought the Wrokstation Solutions 8mm drive, you'd have a 100% chance of reading an 8mm tape -;) == Dave (boy, am I having trouble typing today! ... "Wrok" == "Work")
