[comp.sys.apollo] looking for info on dn560

ben@bucsf.bu.edu (Ben Cline) (01/23/91)

I'm looking at buying an Apollo dn 560 color workstation. If anyone
out there has had any experiences with this machine (or DomainOS 10.x) they would like to share I'd appreciate hearing from them. Thanks.

I hate to break up a business deal, but ...

DN560's do not really have enough memory on them to run SR110.x
unless all you want to do is to login and read your mail and edit files.
The basic machine comes with 2MB on the CPU board, and a 3rd MB
can be added as an option. Even the 3 MB systems page thrash badly
when running the Fortran or C compilers on program of more than a couple
of pages in length. If you are willing to stick to SR9.7, it's just
fine ... but SR10 really require 6 to 8 MB to run reasonalbly.
