[comp.sys.apollo] DM functions trash Xsetroot bitmaps under X-owns-root

A question for all the Xgurus out there ...

I'm running X-owns-root with uwm under SR10.3, using both X- and DM
windows. The problem is with Xsetroot, or the keeping thereof. Once my
root window has been set, I had rather hoped that it would stay that
way. However, various and sundry activities seem to destroy the root
bitmap (or portions of it). Closing a DM window results in the root
window reverting to its original non-color, with only that portion of
the root previously covered by the now-closed window still displaying
the bitmap pattern. Deleting (closing) an alarm_server message window
has an even more bizarre effect. A simple 'xdmc rs' will restore the
root.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
