I have just found that the /dev directory has been somewhat mangled after installing SR10.3.p. The install effectively does a 'mkdev /dev all' which should rebuild the standard devices; however, it deletes the existing devices, as it should, but then doesn't make new ones for: /dev/crp* <== no crp without these /dev/display <== no X Windows without this! /dev/fl0a /dev/logd /dev/nuls /dev/pio1 /dev/printer /dev/rct12 <== no c-tape without this! /dev/rct8 <== no c-tape without this! /dev/rfl0a /dev/rmt12 /dev/rmt8 /dev/rmts12 /dev/rmts13 /dev/rmts8 /dev/rmts9 /dev/rsm0a /dev/rwn0a <== system disk! /dev/rwn96a /dev/sm0a In addition, the '/dev/global_devices' directory is not present, and there is an extra file '/dev/**?**'. The absence of these files prevents the display on the node from being used with X Windows, among other problems, such as crp'ing on to the node. The /dev/crp* files can be made with 'mkdev /dev crp'. The /dev/display file can be made with 'mkdev /dev display'. The /dev/logd file can be made with 'mkdev /dev logd'. The /dev/nuls file can be made with 'mkdev /dev nuls'. The /dev/pio1 file can be made with 'mkdev /dev pio'. The /dev/global_devices directory can be made with 'mkdev /dev global_devices'. Still working on building the other devices - more later. -- Mike Peterson, System Administrator, U/Toronto Department of Chemistry E-mail: system@alchemy.chem.utoronto.ca Tel: (416) 978-7094 Fax: (416) 978-8775
