[comp.sys.apollo] scsci lights, login shell

etb@milton.u.washington.edu (Eric Bushnell) (02/02/91)

A couple of (dumb?) questions:

How come the "in-use" LEDs on scsi devices
sometimes insist upon staying lit? Sometimes
rbak -dev whatever -rewind will turn 'em off,
sometimes not. I've tried mt offline also, with
no change.

Does the apollo rgyd/login really require an interactive
shell for each user? I want to create a couple of accounts
that have applications as the shell, e.g. mathematica.
As soon as I login to such an acct, the pad closes with a
"no shell" message. Also, is there a way to turn off the
Display Manager *and* keep it off, so that such a user can't
create a shell? I know about wmgr -off, but I think that could
be defeated too easily.

Suggestions to RTFM accepted: please give page numbers. 8-)
