I'm having trouble mounting an Apollo (DN3000) file system from a DEC-Station 3100 (Ultrix). The reverse works fine; ie the DS3100 file system can be mounted from the Apollo. Given the command mount -t nfs 'apollo:/users' /user2/me mount (Ultrix) replies with the error message "Arg list too long" and exits. Since the DS3100's can mount files on our other machines I suspect its the Apollo that's not behaving. Thanks in advance for any solutions. That's lots of NFS bug fixes. I can mount the Apollo filesystem on Ultrix without problems. BTW: I had difficulties applying the patch using install++, it insisted that I did not have NFS 2.1 installed (a lie!). So I copied the files by hand and it worked... -- Rainer Toebbicke European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) Geneva, Switzerland rtb@cernapo.cern.ch, rtb@cernvm.cern.ch

I had this problem until I merged the Dec and Apollo passwd files. I imported the password from the Dec and ran /etc/import_passwd favoring the Dec system. I then ran /etc/syncids to reset any uid's that may have been changed. I am now able to mount the Apollos to the DEC's and Sun's and vice versa. -- Jeff Detterman, Rockwell International, Cedar Rapids, Ia Email : j_detter@hwking.catd.cr.rok.com

Install++ was looking for the product to be in AA/install/ri.apollo.nfs.v.2.1 and it wasn't there - it should have looked in the baseline file for the node. This problem occurs sometimes for patches if you have deleted your AA (like we do). You may be able to fake it by creating an empty subdirectory, but I've never tried this. -- Mike Peterson, System Administrator, U/Toronto Department of Chemistry E-mail: system@alchemy.chem.utoronto.ca Tel: (416) 978-7094 Fax: (416) 978-8775
