[comp.sys.apollo] What happened to my NFS?!

mark@intek01.uucp (Mark McWiggins) (02/22/91)

I'm a fairly experienced Unix administrator who's fairly new to Apollo's.
We recently upgraded our 3 Apollos to v10.3 . After the inevitable couple
of false starts, things seemed to get installed just fine. But: when I
went to configure NFS, the daemons to do it (mountd, nfsd, portmap) were
missing!

That is, assuming the documentation I have is still current, and that these
3 daemons really still do the job.

I used the "large" option when installing; was there something else I
needed to do? Obviously NFS has to be there somewhere.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

While I was with Apollo, NFS was optional
software. That means it doesn't come bundled
with the OS, and must be bought and installed
seperatly. As far as I know this wouldn't have
changed for 10.3. (My last experience was with
10.2 !).

Brian

NFS is a layered product and not part of the standard ri.apollo.os.v.10.?
distributions.

I think the best rev to date is ri.apollo.nfs.v.2.1

I know that it's not very wise to argue with people near to the fire, but
when I was asking around for the revision 2.2, nobody at Hp/Apollo frowned
at me.

Actually the best released version is NFS v.2.1.1, which is a *MUCH* better
version to be running than v.2.1. It has a *LOT* of bugfixes that are very
important. It was released as patch m0186 for m68k and patch p0146 for a88k
in Nov.'90. Of course, you need to get v.2.1 first and then apply the patch.
