Environment: Apollo 4500 w/10.3, using BSD (SYSTYPE) Supra 2400 hayes compatible modem Standalone kitchen table with Round table cloth I thought I'd try hooking up a 2400 baud modem to an Apollo I have at home, using the "Managing BSD System Software" manual (from 10.2). It's the only Apollo manual I have at home at the moment, but I thought it would be enough :-( What's the deal between cua*, tty01, or sio1? I don't see a makedev for cua1 (is it a symlink to tty01?). I'm just trying to tip out to start out with. The man page seems to imply that I should use the sio* device, and that the hayes modem is not known. The manual I mentioned gives examples about setting up uucp, but doesn't seem to go into setting up an /etc/remote file for a hayes (it has a line for the Dialers file though) for tip. What is neccessary to dial out? Would someone please send me a portion of their /etc/remote file that deals with this? Is there something I need to change in /etc/ttys as well? Sorry if I'm showing a bit of apollo.ignorance. I'm oriented much more towards Suns, and happen to be borrowing an Apollo so that I can play with/learn some X11 at home (which is another can of worms! why does everything have to be so different on an Apollo?). Thanks for any tips (or just mere comiseration :-) Daniel -- daniel@island.com .....Daniel Smith, Island Graphics, (415) 491 0765 x 250(w) daniel@world.std.com ...4000 CivicCenterDrive SanRafael MarinCounty CA 94903 dansmith@well.sf.ca.us .I must write this, or Island will take away my coffee.
