[comp.sys.apollo] reply: read error

Has anyone out there come up with a workaround to the problem that the
Apollo shipped version of sendmail exhibits during tcp connections?
Here is an example:
>>> RCPT To:<btoll@swmfg.mentor.com>
250 <btoll@swmfg.mentor.com>... Recipient ok
>>> DATA
354 Enter mail, end with "." on a line by itself
>>> .
btoll@swmfg.mentor.com... reply: read error
btoll@swmfg.mentor.com... Deferred: No such file or directory

My guess is that my side was waiting for something from the other end
and it didn't get it. (I got the I don't know what I want from you, but
I ain't gettin' it blues...). After awhile it got tired and went home.

	It looks like either:

A) swmfg sent a message that I dropped or ignored

B) Network slowness allowed me to alarm out

C) ???
