[comp.sys.apollo] restoring 9.7-disk when downgrading 10.2 node : stuck :

chytil@vlsivie.tuwien.ac.at (Chytil Georg) (03/10/91)

I've had to upgrade our remaining 9.7-node to 10.2, not without making
a proper wbak from the disk - node running diskless 10.2 and disk
mounted on //node/ .

The nodelocked application which forced me to do so runs even less
satisfactory under 10.2, and so I have to downgrade again. I proced as
follows:

o	running diskless 10.2 I format the disk, 9.7-structure, bsd-acls ....
o	I retrieve the 9.7-sysboot from the backup and cpboot it to //node/ .
o	I restore the full backup with -md -sacl -pdt .

When I try booting disked 9.7 now it loads the Kernel up to the startup-message
"Aegis 9.7.3 or so ..." and after a few more seconds crashes with 80080011 in
pid 0, which is 'disk block header error (OS/disk manager)' . I've reformatted,
including read/write-checks, and the disk seems ok. Same procedure, same crash.
salvol runs for hours and claims to fix lots of ACL-troubles.
BTW, //node/ has no local cartridge :-( .

Is this a hardware-problem ? Or, as I fear, have I made some fundamental error
in the procedure ?

PS.: I trust You understand that I hate hate hate nodelocked licenses.
