Hi, we have slight problems starting some of the Unix daemons on our master node. All 4 machines in our network have the same `node_data/etc.rc and `node_data/etc.inetd.conf files (and TCP running). On 3 nodes rwhod, routed, writed, sendmail, cron and inetd are running, but the master refuses to start rwhod and routed. If I start them by typing '/etc/rwhod &' the process exits immediately (/etc/rwhod done). Any suggestions ? Second Problem: My `node_data/startup.1280bw sets SYSTYPE to bsd4.2, but sometimes I end up in SYS5 and the value of the variable is indeed SYS5. Very confusing ! Any hints someone ? Any help and comments on these questions are appreciated ! Uwe Meyer / Dept. of Mathematics and Computer Science / University of Giessen (Germany)

Just guessing at your problems, but ... If you take a look at the `node_data/etc/rc.local file, you'll find that most of the TCP/IP daemons are started using a command line that checks for both the existance of the executable program (eg. /etc/rwhod) *and* the enabling file in `node_data/etc/daemons (eg. /etc/daemons/rwhod). -- David Krowitz krowitz@richter.mit.edu (18.83.0.109) krowitz%richter.mit.edu@eddie.mit.edu krowitz%richter.mit.edu@mitvma.bitnet (in order of decreasing preference)
