As was pointed out by someone from Hpollo a few weeks ago, it is not easy to "upgrade" an existing SR10.3 installation from no-ANSI support to ANSI support without re-installing the whole thing. I tried several subsets of the full installation, but still did not get everything (it is easy to get the man pages and the new include files). I found the tests in sections 1.5 and 1.6 of the on-line Release Notes very helpful, since you could fool (appropriate for today :-) ) yourself after just putting in the man/include files. Unfortunately, after re-installing the OS, you have to re-install NFS and the new compilers, plus your patches since you must use the '-m' flag for install++ (otherwise nothing new gets installed, just your boot files get reset). On a related note, I checked my AA for an ACL template file like /install/templates/apollo/os.v.10.3/ip.closed_sysv that would be useful in a BSD environment - there isn't one, and it is badly needed (recall the ACL postings over the past few weeks). The 9103 tape also has patches that claim to fix 2 of our bad problems: - the DN2500 racing clock, - the double/triple/... accounting of processes. There are also several TCP-related patches. I'll be trying them today, and no news about it will be good news :-). -- Mike Peterson, System Administrator, U/Toronto Department of Chemistry E-mail: system@alchemy.chem.utoronto.ca Tel: (416) 978-7094 Fax: (416) 978-8775
