[comp.sys.apollo] how to: 4500 recognize 16 meg ram?

daniel@world.std.com (Daniel Smith - you know, that West Coast one...) (04/04/91)

(Sorry, don't have a hardware manual handy!)

I've taken two memory boards out of one 4500 (4 meg
apiece), and have added them to another 4500 that already had
two memory boards. The boards don't have dip switches or anything
settable on them. Distinguishing marks are "013081 Rev 02" and
"4 / 8 MB MEM". When I try to boot the machine, the screen stays
blank. I've tried removing the boards, doing "ex config", setting
the machine for boards 3 & 4, and reinstalling the boards, but that
doesn't do it either. There's obviously something more I need to do,
but I don't have a manual handy for this beast. Is there a dip
switch or a jumper I need to change in order to get all 4 boards
recognized?

Gee, it's so much easier to add memory to a Sparc :-)

Thanks for any hints, I apologize for my apollo.ignorance.
