Has anyone experienced corrupted pty "pseudoterminals". We need to remake the /dev pty devices twice a month. The bad pty's present with half screen displays: cat a file and get only 40 characters followed with a \ "newline", and other problems. Our setting: DN10K 10.3 BSD with emacs 18.55, ethernet, and tcp/ip; pc's connect using NCSA and FTP telnet, and or GSS PC/Xview. Tried patch 222 and 219: new domain_os and /lib/streams. Only worse: with new pty's running emacs produces segmentation fault in all shell environments. ? Is flow control the problem ? /thanks Bill_Horsthemke_at_CTC@relay.proteon.com

I have a cron job rebuild them weekly, and even that sometimes is not often enough. I haven't tried any 10.3 patches yet. I see that a new patch tape seems to have been released, however. -- Eric Bushnell Univ of Washington Civil Engineering etb@u.washington.edu
