[comp.sys.apollo] NFS question

kent@HUMU.NOSC.MIL (Kent K. Kuriyama) (08/30/90)

I am having a problem installing NFS 2.1 on our DN3500 running
SR10.2. Shown below is the file
'sys/node_data/system_logs/nfs_error_log'. When I first run
'etc/portmap' I get the following message:

>*****************************************************************************************
>1990/08/29.13:10:38, root.staff.none.18591, Domain/OS kernel(7), revision 10.2.0.6, June 8, 1990 5:08:04 pm

>Called from "pgm_$load_run" line 893
>Called from "pgm_$invoke_uid_pn" line 1114
>Called from "pm_$init" line 868

Running '/etc/mountd &' and '/etc/nfsd &' generate even more
error messages.

Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks.

I've installed nfs 2.1 (I think) on a DSP3500 kernel(7), revision 10.1.1.6.
I am on a Sun 3/60 Sun UNIX 4.2 Release 3.5
I've done the install, editted the exports file, and rebooted.

After a mount command, I can "df" and get the stats on the mounted region.
Unfortunately, any attempt to "cd" or "ls" the volumn gives a variant
on RPC: Authentication error.

What did I do wrong?

You need the latest version of Apollo NFS. 2.1+ If you paid Apollo for NFS inthe first place, you should be able to get the upgrade for free. I hear that
there is a new version of NFS that will ship some time this summer that will
solve many of the numerous problems with Apollo NFS. Like speed, or lack
thereof.

First, are you defined to the apollo system as a valid user. Second, is the
uid for your account on the sun the same as on the apollo. If both of the
above are the case, put a rgyd on the apollo gateway node with the mount.
We have cleared up many Authentication errors by doing this.

Appearently when the network (DDS token ring) starts getting busy and the
nfsd has to go across it for packet validation, Authertication errors start
appearing. Apollo nfs requires that every packet be autherized before it
is written or read from the apollo environment.
