When I mentioned at the local San Diego Apollo users group meeting today that we were using xntp to synchronize node clocks on our multi-ring network, it generated a lot of interest. But I couldn't answer a couple questions users had. Our Apollos synchronize to our campus machines which are on the Internet and they ultimately synchronize to a machine with a WWV clock somewhere out in netland. Most of the users at the meeting are not connected to the Internet. What clock would they ultimately synchronize xntp to? I suggested two possibilities, but I don't really know if either is possible: (1) Pick your most accurate node and call that the master. (2) Buy a hardware clock and connect it to one of the Apollos somehow. Are any of you using xntp where only Apollos are involved, and providing your own master clock using these (or any other) methods? Can you provide details that I could pass along? If you have connected a WWV clock to an Apollo, what's the interface, manufacturer, price, etc.? Thanks for any suggestions, Dennis Cottel, dennis@NOSC.MIL, (619) 553-1645 Naval Ocean Systems Center, San Diego, CA 92152
