[comp.sys.apollo] NFS-crossmounts of /usr/spool/mail

chytil@vlsivie.tuwien.ac.at (Chytil Georg) (05/15/91)

As You may have noticed form my "/etc/exports : no options ?" I'm just in
connecting a network of Solbournes (Sun-Clones) and Apollos. Before I run
into major trouble I wonder what obstacles to expect when exporting our
/usr/spool/mail-directory to the Solbournes ?

I considered the following setup :
/usr/spool/mail stays on our gateway, an Apollo DN3500 10.2
all other nodes forward their mail, even local one, to the gateway for final
delivery.
the directory is exported to the Solbournes, linked on the Apollos.

One should expect this to work ( mail is handled by sendmail and elm ) except that
root will be unable to read his (no her, sorry :-( ) mail on the Solbournes.
However, recent experiences with Apollos NFS (file locking) made me less confident.
Is anyone handling a situation like this successfully, and if, how ?

						Georg
