I've got a problem that I hope will be simple for someone on the net. One of our customers had dropped Mentor software support about a year ago, they had planned on replacing their Apollo systems with something else and now Murphy has struck. Two weeks ago they lost one of their two 500MB disks on the server and of course it had not been properly backed up. After I replaced the disk for them, they requested additional help on reloading their software. We installed Apollo release 9.7.1 and Mentor 6.1 after experiencing problems with their backup tapes, the only complete tape they had was 9.2.3 which of course wouldn't talk to the 10.1 nodes without problems. Everything comes up ok with the exception of the Imagen laser printer server and the Versatec 7236 server. Both of these die with "(IPRSVR) unexpected error from server invocation. Unsupported device (graphics/GSR)". We thought that the problem might be with their 6.1 Mentor release tapes since they had a tape IO error during the load. I borrowed a copy of 6.1 and shipped it down to them and they reloaded -- same problem. The customer then installed Mentor 6.0 over his 6.1 and now the Imagen server works ok, but the Versatec server complains about an "Undefined global". We thought that possibly we had made a complete mess of the original install since Aegis 9.2.3 was dumped on the disk initially and decided to format a relatively unused DN3500, install Aegis 9.7.1 and Mentor 6.1 and then bring the server up from it. Users were complaining about the downtime on the server and since the only thing not running was the 7236 server we decided to try to avoid taking it down as much as possible. After setting up the v7236_config.data file in sys/print we also have the same "Unsupported device" error messsage. I've queried my other Mentor customers, but they don't recall this error message occurring previously. We've tried several different v7236_config .data files, tried upper or lower case devices, changed everything we could think of in these files. I'm beginning to suspect that this is one of the those problems that is actually quite simple, but made complicated by a simple lack of knowledge. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to try next? Some additional background info: Customer has only six Apollo systems, running Mentor software on two (the DSP80A server and a DN3000) and Calma DDM software on two others, he has two DN3500's for general purpose use. Any help greatly appreciated. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HONEYWELL Third Party Computer Service -- 1(800) 525-7439 Mike Thomas, Senior Technician, Albuquerque, New Mexico honeywel@wayback.unm.edu (505) 888-5820
