paolo@ai-vie.UUCP (paolo petta) (06/05/91)
(Perhaps the info could be included in regular FAQ postings by who-is-in-the-know...) We recently upgraded a few machines to 5500 (finally!!) - the "minor" nuisance being that we are still missing are the matching compilers: The local HP reps sent us obsolete versions of the C, FORTRAN and Pascal compilers (e.g. C compiler version 6.7...) and in general do not seem to be very well informed (to put it mildely...) From comp.sys.apollo I learned about the bugs in C 6.8 and that there is a version 6.82. Yesterday a colleague informed me that supposedly the version 7 compiler is distributed in the states. Thus I would like to know what the up-to-date versions of the compilers are, and perhaps someone could take the time to add the versions of other software, e.g. NIDL.... Having read the message from Germany about the PSK_8X problem, I start wondering if it weren't time for an open letter "against" European HP reps (but I guess I am exaggerating here...) Thank you for your trouble, paolo -- paolo petta, paolo@ai-vie.uucp (..mcsun!ai-vie!paolo) austrian research institute bitnet and outside europe: for artificial intelligence paolo%ai-vie.uucp@relay.eu.net
