          Abstract

The Department of Electronic Engineering at the University of
Hull in England has been researching in the area of robotics ap-
plied to manufacturing since 1979. Close collaboration has been
established with members of the Department of Systems Design En-
gineering at the University of Waterloo and this association has
been supported by a NATO Collaborative Research Award.

The main thrust of research at Hull is in Garment Assembly,
Knowledge Engineering (applied to assembly) and Dynamic Weighing
to improve product specification in the confectionary industry.

All the research is associated with industrial collaboration and
is primarily funded by the Science and Engineering Research Coun-
          cil (SERC) in the UK.
