I'd appreciate some feedback from users of color printers as we are getting ready to purchase another. Our basic requirements are to print PostScript (PS), HPGL, and Apollo GPR color bitmaps. We currently have a Shinko w/Apollo drivers that plots GPR bitmaps and a QMS ColorScript for PS & HPGL. I'm especially interested in your experience with the Tektronix Phaser PX resold by "Instant Apollo". Factors we are interested in include: B-size support, auto switching between A/B size size of margins on the printed page true (or truer) color support (rather than dithered) Those who haven't installed a color printer should note that 'prsvr' will plot & scale color bitmaps to a PS device, (prf -plot) but they are rendered with a grey scale dither (NOT COLOR) and HP/Apollo will probably never enhance this. (Domain/OS is dead, you know) Thanks to this news group, I have retrieved the code for 'gpr2ps' from freebie.engin.umich.edu and that has worked well, so far. Also note that Mentor Graphics applications will plot to PS, but color is NOT supported. It doesn't sound like version 8.0 print servers have color PS support either. Please contact your Mentor sales rep if you are disgusted too. Thanks, Doug Vander Wilt Sr. CAD/CAM Engineer Honeywell MICRO SWITCH Division dwv@cadnet.micro.honeywell.com
