I got by this limitation when I installed Paul Vixie's System V Cron program,
which came aross comp.sources.unix, and is currently available from
uunet.uu.net (send me mail if you don't have internet access)
This lets you set up individual crontabs for any user (regular people can use
it too - if you install the command for everyone). So now I have separate
crontabs for daemon, root and uucp - no more kludgy "su < ..." stuff.
