We have a Balance-8 with two Swallow drives and three Eagle drives running off the DCC. The filesystems have never been tuned, so last night during some scheduled downtime I did a little playing around with tunefs and write/read timings. Here's the data I took for the Swallows: KB/s rotdel 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 maxcont 1 394 469 466 458 464 560 560 2 395 459 465 457 460 448 453 3 406 450 391 393 433 414 421 4 393 125 151 157 361 410 404 8 386 404 399 401 409 394 398 32767 376 467 474 467 468 575 585 I didn't get as much data for the Eagles, but what I did get has the same shape as the above. It looks like I need to explore higher rotdelays, which surprises me, and higher maxcontigs, which doesn't surprise me. Has anyone out there already done a thorough tune-up for Swallows or Eagles? I'd be interested in hearing what parameters you settled on. --- Jef Jef Poskanzer jef@well.sf.ca.us {ucbvax, apple, hplabs}!well!jef "It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine."
