[comp.sys.sequent] Dynix microtasking library

bakken@cs.arizona.edu (Dave Bakken) (11/30/89)

I have been reading about the Dynix microtasking library in
"Guide to Parallel Programming on Sequent Computer Systems",
2ed, Prentice-Hall 1989. The m_fork routine is intended to
parallelize loops, but it is not clear to me whether the
``jobs'' spawned by it are lightweight or heavyweight. I
suspect the latter, but I certainly hope not. If they are
indeed heavyweight, are there any lightweight packages
Sequent or others offer as commercial products? I know of some
"PD" threads packages that have been ported to the Symmetry
(which we have), but, of course, there is no guarantee that
these will work with future releases of Dynix and that they
will be fixed if they break. Thanks for any help!
