[comp.sys.sequent] Unidata vs Universe on Sequent

rit@softserver.canberra.edu.au (Bob Thompson) (11/03/90)

Our site has been offered the Pic interface Unidata over the more well
known interface Universe (at least it's more well known to me). Unidata
will be used as the Pic interface to Unix for our new Library system
(which has been written in Pic of course). The writers of the Library
system successfully ported it to Universe some time back and are now in
the process of porting it to Unix via Unidata. The reason given to us for
the second port is that Unidata is more efficient than Universe when running
on a Sequent.

Does anyone out there have any experience with both Universe and Unidata
running on a Sequent. If so could you please estimate the improvements
we are likely to get from Unidata (if in fact we are likely to get such
improvements). I am also interested in any major problems experienced by
others with the latest release of Unidata.

	Thanks in anticipation,

						Bob Thompson.
