[comp.sys.sequent] Sequent & DYNIX new user

jgabriel@mtecv2.mty.itesm.mx (Ing. J. Gabriel Ruiz P.) (06/06/91)

Actually in our university we are evaluating some computers to
choose a good account server (NIS server). We'll try a Sequent with
six 386 microprocessors. I like to hear about some experiences with
this kind of machines and about NIS on DYNIX. And one more question
any body knows if DINIX is a System V like, or BSD like or POSIX like
 UNIX?
   Thank's in advance.

Currently Sequent computer has two OS named Dynix V3 and Dynix/ptx.
I guess you will purchase Dynix V3 because you are belong to university.

Dynix V3 is based on BSD, and Dynix/ptx is based on ATT System V R3.2.
Dynix V3 has two universe which are ATT universe and UCB universe.
You can traverse UCB universe and ATT universe at login time or
by ucb and att command after you login. Basically Dynix 3 is BSD machine.
Sequent putted ATT layer upon BSD based machine line Pyramid.
