Is there anyone out there from Sun Microsystems (or anyone else, for that matter) who can help me with the following problem : ASCII file transfer from a PC to a Sun 3/50 using tftp does not work properly - carriage returns (^M) are transferred with the file. Of course, ^M characters are not needed in UNIX text files, and cause fatal problems in our application. Yes, I know I could filter them out easily - I shouldn't have to - that is one of the reasons for having ASCII transfer mode. We can transfer files to our VAX using the same software on the PC and tftp on the VAX and there is no problem - ^M^J is translated to ^J as it should be. So, what is wrong ? Where does the fault lie ? I suspect the Sun, but I could be wrong and I have no way of checking - I have only one implementation of tftp for the PC. Our configurations are : Sun UNIX 4.2 Release 3.0 on the Sun 4.3 BSD on the VAX IBM PC User Telnet Version 7.1 on the PC (written by M.I.T. people) Please email replies to me directly, as I don't regularly read all the newsgroups to which I have cross-posted. Thanks in advance for any help, Kind regards, #\\\\\-----\\\\\ Niall O Broin ###\\\\\-----\\\\\ AXE Software Development #####--------------- Hasler AG +-----------------------------+ #######--------------- Berne +This space available for rent| #########\\\\\-----\\\\\ Switzerland +-----------------------------+ ###########\\\\\-----\\\\\ ####### ///// ///// BITNET obroin%hslrswi.UUCP@cernvax.BITNET ####### ///// ///// UUCP .. {uunet, mcvax ..}!cernvax!hslrswi!obroin ##### ///// ### ///// Any resemblance between this message and the # ///// ///// opinions of anyone else, living or dead, is ///// ///// purely coincidental.
