                 "Computer Networks Development in China"

This talk gives an overview of the research and development of computer
networks in China.  We will describe the PCN (public communication net-
work), WAN (wide area network), LAN (local area network), and the activi-
ties at their sites and related research institutions.  We will then
describe in more detail the research and development projects at the
Software Research Institute, including the RDC network, the SDDB project
(simplified distributed database system), the Switch Programmable Control
and its supporting system, and the OSI (Open System Interconnection) pro-
ject.
