Although fingerd is there and the setup seems ok finger(1) ignores any command lines in the form of user@other-host. There is no error message, just a reply that the local user 'user@other-host' doesn't exist. I've installed the tahoe finger and it works perfectly with Pyramids fingerd. Yeah. We screwed up. It was one of those deals where the code got ported and installed in a private directory, but never made it into the release. It *still* didn't get fixed in OSx 5.0, as someone reminded me today. I'll make sure it goes into whatever comes out next. Meanwhile, 4.3BSD-tahoe finger source is available from uunet, and it compiles and runs just fine. <csg>

I suspect that the Pyramid finger(1) is a remnant of 4.2BSD. Installing the 4.3BSD finger(1) works just fine. I suspect (with a little inside info :-) that it's fixed in OSx 5.0. >--Leif Ljung >leif@phlux.lkb.se||uunet!mcvax!sunic!lkbpyr!leif ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Steve DeJarnett | Smart Mailers -> steve@polyslo.CalPoly.EDU | | Computer Systems Lab | Dumb Mailers -> ..!ucbvax!voder!polyslo!steve | | Cal Poly State Univ. |------------------------------------------------| | San Luis Obispo, CA 93407 | BITNET = Because Idiots Type NETwork | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
