The UNIX Special Interest Group of the Canadian Information Processing Society
(CIPS) is sponsoring the following three meetings designed to give attendees a
flavour of the support which the major vendors are giving to UNIX. Both IBM
and AT&T will also demonstrate their graphical, windowing user interface.

The UNIX SIG is mainly oriented towards people who are new to UNIX. All
meetings take place at the Board of Trade, from 6:15 to 7:30 pm. Both members
and non-members are welcome. Seating is limited, so reserve early by phoning
Shev Fitzmaurice at 658-8948.

January 17 - IBM
"IBM's UNIX (AIX)", by Jean Veronneau of IBM, including a demonstration of
XWINDOWS on an RT.

February 21 - AT&T
"UNIX- then and now", by Jim Peters of AT&T (the original developer of UNIX),
including a demonstration of the graphical interface OPENLOOK.

March 21 - HCR Corp.
"Politics in UNIX", by Brian Eisenberg of HCR Corp. Brian will explore the
political implications of an open system, such as UNIX, which all vendors have
access to yet none can totally control.

The UNIX in Canada study suggests that the UNIX market will grow by 40% per
annum to 1992.

If the large computer vendors agree with those numbers, then one would suspect
that they are committing to UNIX in a big way.

Come and find out.
