I have been having problems with a UDP program I have written for my PC, it used to work but then stopped. Each time I read a packet I actually got a string 'bad format' returned. I had checked the code on the unix host, our 9815 and it was sending the right packet, or so I thought. To convince myself that the problem was on the PC and not the Pyramid I watched the conversation with etherfind on a Sun386i, I saw what I wanted that the correct UDP packet was sent by the Pyramid. However, what I also saw has me really confused. At the present time the Pyramid is sending a TCP packet to my PC about every 60secs. The contents of the packet is 'login timeout after 60 seconds\r\n', the packet is a 'FIN' one. Further investigation, i.e. netstat on the Pyramid shows several TCP connections, my one definitely a telnet session, in the FIN_WAIT_1 state. I would have thought that there must be some limit in trying to close a connection. Other than rebooting, is there anyway to actually get rid of these connections. I am curious as to whether they are part of my PC problem. -- Glen Eustace, Software Manager, Computer Centre, Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand.
