The other day I brought up BIND 4.8.3 on our 9815 (I want Hesiod, so I need source). This machine is to be a secondary master ns for our domain. The primary master is an Ultrix 4.0 box, which has some fancy scripts for the automatic building of the files named needs. In this way, all of the hostnames and aliases in our hosts file get loaded into the ns. The vast majority of these are unqualified, and the result is that I can refer to a local machine with either its qualified or unqualified name on the Ultrix box. However, the Pyramid box cannot deal with anything other than fully qualified names. I thought this odd, since its getting all its info from a machine that can do so. This is the first secondary master I've configured, so I could have something wrong (any tips appreciated). However, I'd have no problem if the Pyramid could be told to look in the hosts file if an ns lookup failed, as can be done by Ultrix (though not necessary to do so in my case). The docs say one or the other, based on the existance of /etc/nameserver. Anyway around this?
