[comp.sys.m68k.pc] Processor hanging up with Unix V

gonzo@killer.UUCP (James Cummings) (08/11/87)

I have need of some major help.

I have a Sritek 68000 co-processor board in our ibm pc-at with the
16 port front end processor attached. We are running Unix system V
as our operating system through a Local Data protocal converter to
emulate a 3274 to our main frame(ibm 3090). Everything seems to run
find without any hitches except for one occasional problem that is
quite frankly beating me to death.
While in the process of talking to the main frame either thru cu'ing
to one of the ports or through one of the 'C' programs I have written,
I get what appears to be a processor lock up. Everything grinds to a sudden
complete halt. The only escape is to power down and re-boot, real bummer!

I have tried everything I can think of including the logical(calling
Sritek for information), but nothing seems to work. The tech at
Sritek told me that someone at Bellcore had the same problem and found
a solution, but he had no record of who that person was or what part of
Bellcore he worked in. For those of you who don't know...Bellcore is a
VERY LARGE organization and this kind of clue is not much help.

I have tried changing speeds from 9600 baud to 4800 ... no luck!
I have tried changing the XON-XOFF signals through the converter... ditto!
I've triedd(heaven forbid) changing my code.. still hangs up!
I've asked my local experts.. got plenty of good ideas.. still no luck!

The greatest gift someone could give this kid for Christmas this year
is the name and contact information of that person at Bellcore(assuming
he even exists). Other than that I would entertain any suggestions that
seem reasonable, especially from anyone that has hands on experience with
a similar problem with similar equipment.

                                Thanx in advance,
                                     James Cummings
