Subject: Adobe AFM files

Greetings.

Robert Brenstein asked about getting AFM files for Times and
other PostScript fonts. The easiest way to get them is from Adobe's
PS file server. You can get info on using the server by sending an
email message to:

	ps-file-server@adobe.com

with the message HELP. The server will then send you back a file
telling you what commands you can use and such. If you send the
message INDEX, you will get a list of the directories. Sending
INDEX <category> will describe the files within that directory
category, and SEND <category> <file> will send that file to you
at its own rate. Small requests are always sent first. If you
send to the server:

	SEND INDEX AFMFiles

you will get a listing of the files and their sizes. Make sure
though that you send the help request first to get full info.

XLisp (current version is 2.0, I think) is *free*. It doesn't use the
Mac interface very much, though. (MacScheme is supposed to be a far better
choice, but I havn't used it since I'm not interested enough to pay for

I know this question was asked before but I don't know if any answer

Hard disk all the file protection has to be completely reset. General
response: UGH! Does anyone out there know the location of the AppleShare
file protection information on the Disk? Is it in one of those desktop
files? ex desktop db and desktop df. And how can it be transferred to the
other server. We have been using new (as of the summer) apple HD 80's that
love to bomb FREQUENTLY. If anyone else has the same type of problem with
the apple 80's please let me and apple know. We have had 6 HD caused

There is a "Graf3D" unit provided as part of TML Pascal II. I've never used

It's provided as a "Unit" of TML Pascal, so for "documentation", you can look

You might want to check out the Atari ST page on GEnie, specifically,
the Spectre Roundtable. Look for a program called DISK PARAM. It does
exactly what you want, is run from the "Mac side" of your computer rather
than the host side. In other words, it is run as an INIT.
I've looked in the Rice server archiver of Mac files and can't locate
it there. The docs claim that it was originally written because of a
Mac having a damaged area to the PARAM area, thus losing Control Panel
information after shutdown. DISK PARAM takes place of this section,
causing all control panel information to be saved in a special file
in the System Folder in a manner similar to the DESKTOP.INF of the
Atari ST, as near as I can tell.
At any rate, it works great on Macs and works great on the Atari ST
when emulating a Mac. I've been using it since December and frankly, am
surprised that it was not included in your A-Max utility tool box, or do
you not have that for the A-Max?
If the file cannot be found, I can send it to you via snail mail on
a Spectre format disk. (sorry about the personal post, but the mail
keeps bouncing to Pete's address).

Subject: Printing color screendumps with PageMaker

Hi mac-users,

I'm am using SuperCard as a prototypingtool on a Mac II with color screen.
For my reports I would like to use screendumps of my prototypes in PageMaker.
First I used a color-screen-dump FKEY that dumped the current window,
but I wanted dumps of the entire screen. The FKEY I'm using now allows
you to dump any part of the screen. This FKEY however has two disadvantages:

- It dumps the screen in black & white.
- You cannot dump one or two rows of pixels on the right side of the
screen (so it only dumps 638 by 480 pixels).

My first question is if someone has a better dump-tool that can dump the
entire screen (all 640 by 480) as a color picture.

The next problem is to import these color pictures in PageMaker and print
them on a black & white laserprinter. So I need some kind of program that
converts the colors into rasters. Does one of you know such a program that
converts PIC-files in e.g. TIFF-files or any other picture-format that I can
print on a black & white printer ???????

Virus Rx is a virus detection program made available by
Apple Computer, Inc. to assist in the detection of viruses.

A new version, Virus RX 1.5, is now available which, in
addition to detecting the presence of the "SCORES", "nVIR",
and "INIT 29" viruses, now searches for the "ANTI" virus.

Virus Rx has been written to specifically detect the
SCORES, nVIR, INIT 29 and ANTI viruses. Similar viruses
may also be detected by Virus Rx.

Version 1.5 supports the following features:

- Support for detecting the ANTI virus.
- A menu option for quick auto-checking of floppy diskettes.
- You can zoom windows by typing command-space.
- Current examination of a diskette or hard drive can be
   aborted using command-period.
- Typing shortcuts are available to replace clicking
in response to the "Save this document dialog" box.
Type Y or y for yes, N or n for no, and command-period

Hi all,

Well the day has finally come. I'm ready to buy a Mac (My thanks to all
the great input I received on what to buy). My question is this:

Are the prices on SEs expected to come down any time in the near future??

I've decided on a dual floppy SE (Hard drive will come later). The machine
is a great deal through the University, but the prices have not changed for
some time (At least 9 months, I think). Yes, the drives are no longer
800K, so the HD drives are an added bonus. Is there a chance that prices
might fall in the near future? Apple also had a special deal last year
where you could buy peripherals for 50% off when purchasing a Mac. Any
chance of a repeat?

The folks at the local computer lab don't know. Given my limited budget,
a drop in prices in the next couple months would help significantly
(though the wait would be difficult :-)). Am I chasing a dream? Any folks
>From Apple with a sense of how the tides are flowing?

Waiting with anticipation,
