[net.news.group] what is happening to net.mail.headers and net.mail.msggroup

gregbo@houxm.UUCP (Greg Skinner) (01/05/85)

<Sorry to post this to 2 groups but I felt it needed immediate attention!>

My site is not receiving articles in either net.mail.headers or net.mail.
msggroup. Both these groups are currently in my active file. I happen to
know from my ARPA accounts that mail is being sent to both these ARPA groups.
As a matter of fact, the discussion in net.mail.headers is of particular
importance to anyone who is connected to (or interested in) the UUCP map
project since domains are about to go into effect and ARPA people are wondering
how UUCP will resolve names like gregbo@houxm.UUCP (some are wondering *if*
they will resolve these names).

Have any other sites found that they are not receiving articles in net.mail.
headers or net.mail.msggroup?

Who is responsible for this gatewaying? The postings, when they used to ap-
pear, appeared to originate from hou3c (that suggests to me Kenneth Alm-
quist), was he hand-forwarding them from ARPA?

I don't know about other people, but I think the discussions in both these
ARPA groups are of significant enough importance that these groups should
be directly gatewayed to<->from USENET<->ARPA, if they are not already. If
a gateway could be set up at brl-tgr that would be a win, if not could some-
one else set up such a gateway? (Unfortunately, I can't.)

In addition, I have noticed a lot of questions in net.mail and net.net-people
pertaining to sending mail to<->from UUCP<->BITNET,ARPA,CSNET and other net-
works. There is an ARPA mailing list called info-nets which deals specifically
with these issues. All the mail gurus in the worldnet are on this list, so it
is likely that anyone's net.mail or net.net-people's questions could be ans-
wered on this list. If this list could be gatewayed as well into net.mail
or net.net-people, or perhaps net.net-people be flushed in favor of net.
info-nets, that would be a real win.

Comments are welcome, however please post followups to net.news.group only.

Yes, you have my vote on forwarding info-nets. Also, I do not recall seeing
anything in the abovementioned groups recently either.
