Inter/Access presents "Interactive Artists", a series of artist talks, studio visits and workshops on the subject of interactive and computer-controlled media, featuring some of Toronto's foremost "interactive" artists. LAURA KIKAUKA "The Funny Farm" STUDIO VISIT An afternoon tour and tea at Laura Kikauka's "Funny Farm", including a presentation of Laura's most recent interactive and computer-controlled pieces, "Terminally Ill" and "Them Fuckin Robots", as well as many of her electronic, " wearable art" pieces. The studio visit will demonstrate the tools and materials (numerous) Laura uses in her work, and give participants an opportunity to see first-hand Laura's original world of "postindustrial detritus and pop fallout". Date: Sunday June 25 (Noon departure from A Space, return 7 pm) Location: The Funny Farm (Flesherton) Fee: $10 (Transportation included. Advance registration required.) DON RITTER "Interactive Amiga" WORKSHOP Using his own work as a departure point, Don Ritter will demonstrate the graphics, animation, musical and interactive potential of the Amiga computer. Topics covered will include; hardware components and peripherals, graphics editors and digitizers, animation, MIDI applications, sequencing and sampling, and transferring computer output to videotape. The workshop will conclude with a demonstration of Don's interactive animation system "ORPHEUS". Date: Mon. - Wed., June 19 - 21 (7-10 pm) Location: Inter/Access Fee: $30 DAVID ROKEBY "Very Nervous System" STUDIO VISIT An evening presentation of David's interactive piece, "Very Nervous System". The presentation will involve a live demonstration of the system in which dance or movement creates a variety of musical sounds. This will be followed by a technical introduction to both the hardware and interactive language software, a walk-through of a simple program in the language, and a discussion of interactive works, with an emphasis on aesthetic and psychological issues. Date: Thursday June 22 (7 -10 pm) Location: 349A Spadina Avenue Fee: $5 NORMAN WHITE "The Helpless Robot" ARTIST TALK An evening with Norman White, in conjunction with his exhibition as part of "The Phase Show". Norman will discuss the different influences in his work over the years as well as current directions and future projects. The talk will focus on a number of milestone, computer-based works, particularly his most recent and ambitious, "The Helpless Robot". Technical discussion and questions will follow. Date: Thursday June 15 (7-10 pm) Location: A Space Fee: $5 OLIVER KELLHAMMER "Interactive Ecology" ARTIST TALK An evening presentation of Oliver's recent work, ("Model of the Universe" series) in which computers are used as tools for ecologically interactive sculpture, and also to research the "World Information Order". Oliver will discuss various accessible news wire services as well as the "public listening post" facility which he has recently initiated. Date: Thursday June 29 (7-10pm) Location: Inter/Access Fee: $5 Inter/Access is a non-profit, artist-run centre providing training and access to computer-based and communications media. 24 hour access is provided to members.
