I'm using an ATI EGA Wondercard, and have tried the SMS program, but to no avail. As soon as Lotus starts up, it seems to force my display back to the 80 x 25 display. There don't seem to be any screen drivers for Lotus in my package for this type of situation, but then, I've had it for a few years. (Couldn't find a reference to it in the manual either.) I have prepared a home made cable with the following configuration: Computer Plotter ---------- --------- 9 PIN 25 PIN 2 -----> 3 3 -----> 2 5 \ \ -----> 20 6 / but I seem to be getting either no response or device time-out response when I try to run HP's test program. I've tried setting COM1 parameters via the mode command and from within BASICA, but nothing seems to work. HP's manual is pretty explicit for 25 - 25 PIN cable connections but has nothing in it on 9 PIN cables. Is there something I'm overlooking here, such as that in 9/25 PIN individual pins may mean different things ? Thanks for any and all help. Unless you're one of those lucky dogs that has a SuperVGA of some sort (sigh). Anyway, you should be aware that you can easily tweek the IBM VGA into 320x400 and even 360x480 256 color modes. For more info on that tweek, get a hold of the JAN/FEB 1989 issue of Programmer's Journal (Volume 7.1). As far as extended memory goes, I recommend The Waite Group's MS-DOS Papers published by Howard W. Sams & Company. They have a good discussion of how to access the EMM device drivers. I think PC Magazine also ran a couple of articles on it recently. In addition to EMM, remember that you have multiple pages of video memory in some modes. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Sep 89 15:04:54 EDT From: emb978@leah.Albany.EDU (Eric M. The RISKS-FORUM Digest keeps an updated subject/content-list for the current volume available for FTP-ing at all times. And the last issue of every volume is that "half-year"'s content. Most helpful. Using MAKEBAS from PC Magazine I produced Basic source files which can be sent by mail to enable the recipient to produce David Kirschbaum's UUD19.COM and XXD.COM. The recipient can then decode any encoded binary files he or she receives, including TOADUU19.ARC and TOADXX10.ARC which contain these binaries. Erich Thanks, Erich! UUD19.BAS and XXD.BAS have been added to the SIMTEL20 archives in directory PD1:<MSDOS.STARTER>. This is an excellent way for bootstrapping uudecode and xxdecode since most MSDOS users have GWBASIC or BASICA. The program source includes a checksum at the end of each line in order to assure error-free creation of the COM file. It's also a very short program since David Kirschbaum's uudecode and xxdecode are each about 750 bytes in size. I have verified that these Basic programs create UUD19.COM and UUX.COM files which are identical, except for a few bytes of zero padding on the end, to those distributed by the author David Kirschbaum. The padding is probably caused by Basic's insistance of writing even boundry 128 byte binary files. That will not affect the operation of the COM files. --Keith Petersen Maintainer of SIMTEL20's CP/M, MSDOS, and MISC archives Internet: w8sdz@WSMR-SIMTEL20.Army.Mil [26.2.0.74] Uucp: {ames,decwrl,harvard,rutgers,ucbvax,uunet}!wsmr-simtel20.army.mil!w8sdz ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Oct 89 12:58:24 From: CS1CWM%primea.sheffield.ac.uk@NSFnet-Relay.AC.UK Subject: Windows 2.1 and HP ColorPro In number 79 Bernie Lantz said he was having trouble driving the HP ColorPro under Windows/386 V2.1.
