Subject: 3270 Emulation

To the person who requested information on a 3270 emulator:

IBM has a program known as the Migratable Yorktown Terminal Emulator
(MYTE). It is a very well done 3270 emulation program. The only
problem is that the program is IBM Internal Use only (I worked for IBM
last summer) which means you'd have to talk with IBM about getting a
copy.

Also, if I remember my rumors correctly, IBM released a product called
PC/3270 (note the slash) which is supposed to be very similar to MYTE.

If you want to get more info, try calling your local IBM Branch Office.
Or call IBM Direct at 1-800-426-2468.

Please note that I have no affiliation with IBM except as a former (and
hopefully soon to be again) employee.

Regards!

I sent a program to SIMTEL called respro. It will drop to dos
on many hung machines. It is also a great TSR manager, and very easy
to use. Do not, however, use it concurrently with Desqview, or you
will lock up every time you try to access the program.

Also, it has keys that you can redefine (if you don't like
them) to break out of a locked state (I think it's CAPS+SCROLLK), and
if you "fire" them once, and you break out, you might have to set them
to "off" before trying to break out again.

Good luck with the program (when they post it), and as usual,
the standard disclaimers apply...

First, is he using the Dasddvr.Sys (I think that's what it's
called) for Dos 3.3? Second, does your friend have the Patch for
Procomm 2.42 for using it with Dos 3.3?

HP Israel sells a cartridge will fonts for HP Laser Jet II. It includes
FrankRuhl, David, Narkiss and other fonts. It should cost now about
$200.

A far better quality is available on diskette with fine fonts produced
by Shemuel Gutman in Jerusalem. They currently seem to be customized
for Nota Bene, but I suppose you could use them with other word
processors. Please contact BOYARIN@TAUNIVM.BITNET about these.

Very ugly Hebrew fonts are also available as part of the Multilingual
version of Nota Bene (Dragonfly Software, New York). Nota Bene is the
best word processor for Hebrew, and is available in "American" and
"Israeli" versions.

Sometimes extended keyboards are hooked up to the old IBM Pc's.
Their BIOS's do not support the F11 and F12 keys. In some cases,
clones will be able to communicate with them via TSRs, however, in many
cases it will not work.

I'd like to respond that a couple of things need to be considered...

It is possible to get POSTSCRIPT output from WordPerfect 5.0.. you
only need to configure your output to use a printer driver that
supports Postscript.. and with every copy of WordPerfect, you get a
diskette full of printer drivers... for example, if you select the TI
ONMI choice, you'll get a driver that produces Postscript...

You may already have everything you need setup, or your may have to
add more printer drivers from the printer diskette... use the SHIFT PF7
option in WP, then (S)election a printer.. if need be, look to the
(A)ddition printer menu to add those from the diskette... also, you
might have to (E)dit the choosen printer driver to point to the LPT
port you want to use...

Thanks, Ted Fabian my opinions are my own

Subject: 286 programs on a 386?

        I have a PS/2 Model 80. At work, I have access to a
Compaq/386, as well. No matter what (386) machine I try to run
Cygnet's Little Black Book on, it will lock the machine up (I have
tried many others). If I try the program on a 286 or 8088, it works
fine. I know that the 286 instruction set is a subset of the 386 set,
and when the 386 was built, they left off a few commands that were
available in those previous processors. I'm sure that the program is
trying to access some of those instructions.

What I'm looking for is a TSR that will allow me to run The
Little Black Book on a 386. Cygnet went out of business and the
company that took them over dropped the program.

Now I have the program, all the data, a 386, and I can't run
it. Also, I love the program because it actually prints an actual
little book and has an algorithm in there to figure out spacing, and
such.

If anyone knows of either a better program that will print a
little book that keeps names, adresses, phone numbers and notes OR
knows of a TSR that will allow me to run the program, please let me
know. I would prefer the latter since I am so attached to the program,
however any suggestions would be much appreciated.

You can either reply to me directly, or respond to the network.

Subject: Free Disk Space in Batch File

Due to a overcrowded hard disk, I have a number of batch routines that
unzip large sets of files. I want the routines to end if there is
insufficient room to unzip all of the files.

Is there a program in the SIMTEL archives that will return error codes
for the number of K remaining free on a hard disk? I've downloaded
SHO24.ZIP and FREE151.ZIP and while both function well, they seem to
have no mechanism for being included in a batch file.

Any suggestion of another approach will be appreciated.
