Subject: Phone Number or BITNET address needed

I would like to contact Santa Clarita Softworks (RJ Matthews). I downloaded
their program QBASE from SIMTEL. All I have is a mail (Snail) address for a
P.O. Box in Santa Clarita, CA.

I need to discuss some items with them and Email or Phone would be quicker.

Subject: QuickC 2.0 Compiler Bug

Regarding the QuickC 2.0 Compiler Bug reported in an earlier Digest
and found that ... MicroSoft Development verified the bug that was
found, and it had been fixed in QC 2.5 and C 6.0.

Thanks for taking the time to send mail!

From: Jac Goudsmit <S89406316@HSEPM1.HSE.NL>

| I recently discovered a compiler bug in Microsoft QuickC V2.00.
| The program source was like this:
|
| /* global variables used in next fragment: */

[...Lots of text deleted...]

| mov BX,word ptr [BP-12] ; bx=x[n]<<4
| mov AX,word ptr [BP-14] ; ax=[n]
| add BX,word ptr [BX+SI+y] ; >>>>ERROR<<<<
|				 ; should add y[n] to bx  => bx=(x[n]<<4)+y[n]
| mov byte ptr[BX+tk],0 ; tk[(x[n]<<4)+y[n]]='\0'

[...More text deleted...]

| Apparently, QuickC's expression evaluator tries to do something like this at
| the location of the error:
| add BX,word ptr [AX+y] ; illegal

Found out the reason behind the slowdown of Wordstar. Had some
TSR's resident, chief among them PCTOOLS PCSHELL. Will put that under
control of a TSR manager program, such as the MARK/RELEASE SET.

Subject: EPSON DFX-5000 Printer

I have a query about an EPSON printer. This is a NLQ dot matrix
printer, model DFX-5OOO. This printer has two tractors, so you can feed
in paper from the front, or from the rear of the machine.

     I'm using this printer on a Zenith Z-248, a 80286 machine running
MS-DOS 3.2. Every so often, the printer begins acting strange. The
tractors are well below the platen and carriage. To load paper, you put
it into the tractors. just level with the top of the tractors. Then
pushbuttons automatically load and position the paper.

Except when the printer decides it's time for some spirited
behavior. Then it will feed and unfeed the paper continuously. It only
stops whan the printer is powered off.

There is an electronic eye near the platen, which I cleaned with
some isopropol alcohol. This didn't appear to do anything, so I
disconnected the printer and left it over night.

This morning, I tried out the printer again. It fed and unfed the
paper for about 5 minutes, and then settled down. It is now working
just like normal. Did the cleaning work, or did the computer gods
decide they'd laughed enough for one day?

Can anyone provide jumper switch settings from the manual for a Kouwell

Specifically I need the jumper settings to identify the serial port as

Subject: PAN - program animator

Hello networkers,
Is there anybody who knows why the program animator program PAN (from
PC Magazine) does not always work on machines that use DOS 4.0. Instead
of receiving keystrokes from the file the animated program accepts only
keystrokes from the real keyboard. Could this be because of an enhanced
keyboard? Then why does it work on the same machine under DOS 3.3?
Thanks for any suggestions, Anneke

Subject: PCO v3.34

Hello,

I'm currently using version 3.0 (maybe 3.3) of PCO which is a
shareware outline program. I've seen version 3.34 advertised in PC
World magazine. I'd like to know if someone out there has the new
version and whether it is markedly different from the previous one.
For example, does the new version have mouse support. Maybe someone
can upload into SIMTEL so that others can get the update.

Thanks
Pat

Does anyone know of software for the IBM PC which will cause
PrintScreen data to be prefixed with a chosen escape sequence and
